AC Repair Rather Than Replace — The Most Common AC Breakdowns & How Griffin Service Fixes Them RIGHT

A real diagnosis requires a tech to visit your home, but the following 5 general problems account for about 85% of AC breakdowns in our area. And in the vast majority of cases, Griffin Service can and will repair your existing system and extend its service life.

  • 1. Electrical Issue

This could be a capacitor or a control unit for your compressor or fans or corroded wires and terminals within your AC. So long as the electrical failure hasn’t caused other damage, electrical fixes are less expensive than replacing major components. Your Griffen Service tech will run a complete electrical This could be a capacitor or a control unit for your compressor or fans or corroded wires and terminals within your AC. So long as the electrical failure hasn’t caused other damage, electrical fixes are less expensive than replacing major components. Your Griffen Service tech will run a complete electrical diagnostic on your system and give you the full health of your electrical components. We also stock electronic replacement parts for most major brands

  • 2. Sensor/Thermostat Problems

Could be one of the sensors located behind the unit’s control panel or even just your home's thermostat. Either way, if a modern system’s sensor is off, the system won’t run right or won’t run at all. These also tend to be relatively inexpensive repairs and your Griffin AC Tech can easily diagnose and replace any faulty sensor.

  • 3. Low Refrigerant / Leaks / Too much refrigerant

If your refrigerant leaks out and your system is running on low, it could cause loss of cooling power, a tripped breaker, frozen coils, or even a dead compressor. Too much refrigerant can also damage your system’s compressor. Depending on when this problem is caught, it could be anywhere on the price spectrum, from relatively inexpensive leak repair and recharge to requiring a full system replacement. Caution: never let someone “fix” your refrigerant levels without first fixing your system’s air flow! Your Griffin Service tech will ensure proper system airflow and performance before adjusting your refrigerant level for optimum performance and service life.

  • 4. Drainage Problems

Modern systems have sensors that detect when the drain line clogs and will shut the system down to prevent flooding. Cleaning out the drain line is a relatively straightforward and inexpensive fix, but it’s important to address the fundamental cause of the clog, rather than just vacuuming out the line. Your Griffin Service Tech will ensure you get a long-term fix for your drain problem.

  • 5. Blocked, Dirty, or Damaged Coils

If your heat exchangers are too dirty or damaged, your system won’t cool properly, could possibly leak refrigerant, and possibly cause your system to overheat and breakdown. Cleaning dirty coils is usually an easy fix, but repair or replacement can run from high three figures to (just) at low four figures. Pays to clean & maintain heat exchangers as regular maintenance.

How We Keep You In Control of Your System

Modern Air Conditioning Systems are complex systems, where every part has to be in balance for optimum performance. Properly diagnosing a system means getting a big picture understanding of what’s really causing the problem — including measurements for proper air flow.

When your Griffin Service AC Tech gets to your home, he will make a full diagnosis of your entire system. Then he’ll show and explain the exact problem and provide ALL of your options. You’re in control.

The goal is to provide 5-Star, Legendary Service, where you’re thrilled you trusted Griffin Service with your AC Repair.
